What is a hip knee ankle foot orthosis?
Hip knee ankle foot orthosis also known as HKAFO. It is used for patients with extensive hip muscle spasm, unstable hip joints or with internal and external rotation deformities. The orthosis is fixed in the pelvis, also known as hip thigh orthosis. Mostly used for sequelae of poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy, high paraplegia, hemiplegia, myogenic or neurogenic muscle weakness caused by lower limb paralysis. Its role is to provide support, no load, assist standing and walking, stabilize lower extremity joints, prevent muscle atrophy, correct deformity and promote rehabilitation.
