Let’s Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival

Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as "August Festival" and "Reunion Festival". In our country, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Spring Festival, the Qingming Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival are also known as the four major traditional festivals in China. Influenced by Chinese culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a traditional festival in some countries in East and Southeast Asia. In southern Fujian, there are also unique customs for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

People in southern Fujian have always attached great importance to the Mid-Autumn Festival, and their customs have quite local characteristics, including "Worshiping the Moon" and "Listening to Incense". In the minds of the people of southern Fujian, the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar is the birthday of the lunar star. They continue the ancient worship of celestial phenomena and worship the moon on this day. Those who have something on their mind will seek "direction" from the moon when it is high in the sky - this is called listening to incense. Listening to incense can be done at home after worshiping the moon, or you can go to a public temple dedicated to the Yang God to ask for divination. Burn incense and pray, then throw the chalice (two symmetrical small pieces of wood). If you get the "answer", you can listen to the incense.

When it comes to the Mid-Autumn Festival, what I have to say is eating mooncakes. In southern Fujian, there were many types of mooncakes on the market in the early years, including traditional Chinese mooncakes, Cantonese mooncakes, crystal cakes, biscuit cakes, white cakes, fried cakes, etc. Nowadays, with the further development of the economy and the advancement of food manufacturing industry, the mooncake market has become more diverse.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, in addition to eating mooncakes and admiring the moon, the most popular culture in southern Fujian is "Mooncake Festival Dice Game". "Mooncake Festival Dice Game" has also been selected as a national intangible cultural heritage, which shows its great influence.

A relevant person from the Xiamen Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center said that " Mooncake Festival Dice Game " originated in Xiamen, Fujian Province, and later spread to Longhai in Zhangzhou, Anhai in Quanzhou and other places. " Mooncake Festival Dice Game " was improved into a set of rules based on imperial examination levels. At the same time, it combines the rules of ancient gambling games and the popular "Zhuang Yuan Chou" game in Jiangnan, by rolling six dice, you can win the top prize, the second prize and so on, six levels in total, and get mooncakes of different sizes. It is a folk entertainment activity with fair, simple and interesting game rules and a competitive nature.

Mooncakes have their own name in Xiamen's cake gaming custom, which is commonly known as Hui Cake. This is one of the indispensable "props" for Mid-Autumn Festival gaming. Traditional Hui Cakes are made up of mooncakes of different sizes. A set of Hui Cakes includes: 1 Zhuang Yuan Cake, 2 Dui Tang Cakes, 4 San Hong Cakes, 8 Si Jin Cakes,16 Ju Ren Cakes and 32 Yi Xiu Cakes. The game is now modernized to make it more exciting, with gifts for players instead of just a mooncake.

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, in order to reward all employees for their hard work and dedication, our company well planned a grand Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, prepared a variety of delicacies, and also organized a "Mooncake Festival Dice Game" event, a very rich and practical daily necessities were prepared for everyone on site as prizes for the game.
